I asked Katie Dunn, one of the Assistant Day Camp Directors, to share about her experience of Week 1 of 2022 Day Camp. This is what she wrote:
“The past two summers I was a Day Camp Counselor and I loved every minute of it! From playing games like “Clean Your Counselor” and “Crud Wars” to swimming to dances to mixes, Day Camp is always a blast. Now as an Assistant Director, I help plan out our schedules, help run activities, and perform skits; basically a little bit of everything.
For the past two weeks, summer staff participated in staff training where we were able to grow spiritually and prepare our hearts for this summer as well as meet our team and prepare for campers to come. We’ve had team times where we get to know our day camp team members better, play games, learn dances and skits, and learn about a day in the life of day camp. After all this time preparing, we finally had campers come this week! It’s been amazing to see the counselors transition from staff training into having their own campers. For two weeks we were preparing for this, and now that campers are finally here it’s incredible to see this team in action. I knew we had a good staff, but they have been blowing me away! Since day one the counselors have jumped right in and have been going all out every day for these campers. The staff’s joy and love for Jesus is so evident and I can’t wait to watch them grow this summer.
Every day we go to the mix where we dance, play games, perform skits, sing worship songs, and hear a message from a staff member. Afterwards, counselors are able to have devotional time with their campers and discuss the message, answer questions, and go deeper into what God is saying. This week’s theme at Day Camp is the summer theme of Ocean Deep. We’re talking about stories like Noah and Jonah, sharing the gospel, and how we can go deeper with Jesus.
Having been a counselor for the last two years, I’ve gotten to know many of the campers, especially those who come back year after year. There are some campers that come to Day Camp for multiple weeks throughout the summer. Counselors get to know these campers pretty well, and I love getting to see these campers again! It’s almost as if we pick up where we left off last summer. We get to spend a whole summer with these kids and it’s so much fun to see them come back a year later and see how much they’ve grown. I’m so grateful for my time at Beulah Beach and I can’t wait to see what God does this summer!”
Sounds like an awesome leader. One who has fun with the campers. It shows the love of Christ.
Praying Blessings over all the staff as serve these kids, the Church of Tomorrow,Praise God.Thank you you all so much. Isaiah 41:10
