Come On! Ring That Bell!

In early March while on a missions trip God spoke to me. He said, “Joel, your life is way too short not to be doing something that really matters.” I answered that calling, forgot all of the other things I was pursuing, and grabbed hold of God’s will for my life.

Serving this summer at Beulah Beach was an absolutely incredible experience! Our theme for the summer was “Mystery 1551” — 1 Corinthians 15:51 says, “Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed.” We sure didn’t sleep much, but lives were changed! Dynamic worship, hilarious skits, and challenging speakers all contributed to an exhilarating experience for every single camper.

The best part of camp this summer was on Wednesday night. Our staff performed “Cross Walk,” a live demonstration of Jesus Christ’s last hours before His death. Each week, our staff would be in tears as kid after kid answered the call and went to the cross to give their
life to Christ. You can share the experience with us by visiting www.bbeach.org and clicking Cross Walk under recent news.

As you know, we have a tradition that when a life is changed for Christ, we ring the bell!. When it rings, everyone on the camp rejoices with the angels in heaven. In the summer of 2009, that bell rang 344 times! Praise God! He was right. My life IS too short not to be doing something that really matters!

“Hope all is well at the Beach. We had a great time at your
golf outing. You and your staff are to be commended. It was quite an impressive event for a so called novice to pull off.
The food was top notch and you were well organized.
Kudos for your efforts. We will look forward to your invitation
next year.”

—Kent Morgan

“My feelings about BMC and Beulah Beach in general are best summed up with what took place in one of our Toledo churches this past Sunday morning: An eight year old boy who went to Beulah Beach for the very first time said: “It was the best week of my life.” His 10-year old sister (who also attended for the very first time) then got up and said: “I rang the bell!”

“We cannot thank you enough for pouring yourselves into the lives of these young campers. Our daughter rededicated her life to Christ this summer, ringing the bell! Our son learned that worship can be such a rich, satisfying experience and that it’s okay to be enthusiastic about it! Best of all, our daughter’s unchurched friend who accompanied her to camp came home raving about her experience and planning for a return trip next year.”

Service As Great As The Lake

I looked up “Greater Things” in the Bible…
it appears 3 times in the Gospel of John.

John 1:50 “You shall see greater things.”
John 5:20 “He will show you greater things.”
John 14:12 “You will do even greater things.”

As great as the past has been, will you believe with me for even greater things? I like what William Carey once said, “Attempt great things for God. Expect great things from God!”

—Ralph Trainer, Executive Director

“We have this?!” This was my first reaction as I entered the grounds of Beulah Beach this past summer. I looked around at the beauty that surrounded Beulah Beach and I truly felt excited and overwhelmed in the same moment. It is truly incredible that I have the opportunity to serve at a place that overlooks Lake Erie and has so much to offer to every person that steps foot here. From a young age, no other ministry has excited me as much as “camp.”

I felt the call to the ministry during my sophomore year of college at Indiana Wesleyan University, and soon changed my major to Youth Ministry. When college came to an end in April of 2009, I sought out full time employment at many camps. The Lord clearly led me towards Beulah Beach. After an incredible summer and seeing literally hundreds of lives changed because of Jesus Christ, I now have the opportunity to serve full time as the Guest Services Coordinator and Assistant Programs Director.

Being a part of Beulah Beach has already been the most fulfilling time of my life. I wake up every morning excited to come to work and serve others in whatever capacity that the Lord reveals to me. God brought me to Beulah Beach to spread the news of Jesus Christ, and I look forward to fulfilling that mission each and every day.

—Shea Prisk, Guest Services Coordinator &
Assistant Program Director

What a year! Despite tough economic times Beulah Beach is standing firm. Giving by means of contributions and fund-raising events through August 2009 is only lagging $3,700 behind last year’s giving. Overall registration revenue continues to climb and exceeds last year’s registration revenue. As the fiscal year comes to a close on November 30, with your continuing support, we should be in a position to end another year in the black. Our current long term indebtedness stands at $413,854, down from $704,805 just 21 months ago. We are working hard to control expenses and use every available dollar to pay down debt.
Thank you for being a “Friend of the Beach”!

—Jeremy Krauss, Director of Support Services

Beach Needs

You have not because you ask not (so we're asking!)

Backhoe- The Beulah Beach Backhoe has nearly bit the
dust! If anyone has a lead on where we might find one at a
reasonable price, please let us know!

Tractor- What would camp be like without hayrides? And what would hayrides be like without a tractor? We may find out soon! Does anyone know of an available tractor for sale?

Swimming Pool- We’re pretty sure we have the oldest pool in Erie County! We’re fairly certain it was built in 1959. We’re
exploring plans and prices to build a new one. We’re looking for some good advice on building a new pool at Beulah Beach. Know anyone?
